- If you have never taught the course, order a desk copy of the course text. Locate the textbook(s) needed on the course syllabus and record the edition, year, or ISBN number to ensure you obtain the correct version. Then, go to the following sources to request your desk copy.
- Electronic Versions: You can create an account at VitalSource.com. VitalSource provides electronic copies of textbooks to faculty. Once you set up your account, VitalSource will check with SNU to ensure you are an instructor and not a student. Once your account is verified, you can immediately download electronic copies of all your textbooks from VitalSource. Check your course syllabus for the textbook title and publisher and then go to VitalSource and check the availability.
- Print Versions: You can go directly to the publisher’s website and request a free desk copy from the publisher. Again, the publisher will check with SNU to ensure you are an instructor and not a student. Once your account is verified, you will be mailed a copy of the textbook you requested. Check your course syllabus for the textbook title and publisher and then go to the publisher’s website to request a desk copy.
- When Free Copies are Unavailable: From time to time, textbooks will not be available from either VitalSource or the textbook publisher. Oftentimes smaller publishers do not provide free desk copies for instructors. When this occurs, please contact Paula Troutman, ptroutma@snu.edu, in the Faculty Development office who will order a textbook for you from our textbook provider.
