The Center for Learning and Innovation has implemented a Learning Tools Interoperability (LTI) approval process for the addition of all external tool integrations into Canvas. The approval process for each tool will include a full vetting of the tool. If you have any questions or concerns, please email us at cli@mail.snu.edu.
What is an LTI?
Learning Tool Interoperability (LTI) integrates various online learning applications into the learning management system, extending its functionality. This allows learners to access integrated assignments and assessments through online course modules.
What is the Review Process?
The approval process for each tool will include a review of functionality, accessibility, security, compliance with University policies, cost, terms of service/license agreements, and other factors. LTIs that duplicate current services will likely not be approved.
When to Request?
To ensure timely integration, please submit your tool requests well in advance, as the vetting process typically requires 2-3 months. Availability for a specific semester cannot be guaranteed, as tools must be fully vetted before implementation.
What is the Process after a Request?
After submitting an LTI Request, the CLI Team will review it to start the vetting process. We might reach out for more details, and your quick responses to these inquiries will help keep the process moving.
When will I be notified of approval?
Once the vetting process is complete, you will be notified of its approval status.
What happens if my LTI is not approved?
If your LTI is not approved, you will be notified of the reasons that the LTI failed approval, and alternate options will be offered (if applicable).
Who pays for an LTI?
If an LTI has associated costs, this is the responsibility of the requesting department.
Will an approved LTI stay available?
LTIs will be reviewed every two years. Those with minimal or no usage will be slated for removal from the approved list. If a free LTI introduces a cost, it will prompt an immediate review.
Who supports an LTI?
While the CLI team supports the Canvas setup and integration of approved LTIs, vendor contact is required for all other instructor and student-level support.
