We know that you, the course intructor, provide much support to your students. There may be times, though, when your student needs additional help or services beyond what you can offer. There may be times when a student is not succeeding for one reason or another, and you should alert the SNU team for additional help.
Reasons to Submit an Early Alert
In addition to supporting your students who are struggling, you should submit an Early Alert. This alerts the staff on campus to reach out to the student to provide additional support. There are a variety of reasons to submit an Early Alert. Your options in the Early Alert system include the following:
- Cheating/Plagiarism
- Class Disruption
- Frequent Tardies
- Never Attended
- Personal Issue
- Poor Academic Performance
- Tutoring Referral
Steps to Submit an Early Alert
- Navigate to Canvas
- Click Help and Tools
- Click Faculty Self-Service
- Click Daily Work (briefcase icon)
- Click Faculty
- Click Early Alert
- Log in with your SNU Email and Password
- Select the course
- Place a check mark next to the student’s name
- Select the appropriate Alert Type
- Click Next
- Add Notes (optional but recommended to provide context for the team)
- Click Next
- Click Submit Alert
Steps to View Alert History
There may be times you want to review alerts you previously submitted to see the status of the alert.
- Navigate to Canvas
- Click Help and Tools
- Click Faculty Self-Service
- Click Daily Work (briefcase icon)
- Click Faculty
- Click Early Alert
- Log in with your SNU Email and Password
- Click the option gear icon (top right corner)
- Select Alert History
- Select the course
- You can review the alerts you have submitted already, including student names, alert types, and owner (the staff member working with the student), and status (open/closed).
